Tierbos Manor House, Hout BayTierbos Manor House is a Cape Heritage house, built in the early 1920s by the renowned South African naturalist S H Skaife. It has been in the current owner's family for over 20 years. Although extensive improvements and renovations have been made to the house, its original integrity has been retained and preserved. The house has wonderful proportions and is spacious and elegant. Situated in a private estate with its own nature reserve, Tierbos Manor House is set against a mountain, commanding imperial views over Hout Bay Harbour and surrounds. Walking trails are demarcated within the private nature area and extensive species of the Cape Floral Kingdom flora abound for nature lovers to enjoy. An indigenous Knysna forest and several waterfall chains make the estate all the more magical. The property is set in a beautiful, indigenous garden with sweeping lawns and a two level pond with cascading waterfalls. It has a large swimming pool and lapa area for outdoor entertaining. A self-contained outdoor cottage on the pond provides further accommodation. The area is surrounded by mountains and beaches. Literature about walks, hikes, sightseeing and local attractions can be found in the house library. The Hout Bay Museum has a large archive on the history of the house and there are many pieces in the house reflecting old Cape Town including a number of beautiful model replicas of famous sailing ships. |
